The Two-Year English Association, a subsidiary of the National Council of Teachers of English, invites proposals for the Pacific Northwest Regional Conference, to be held at Spokane Community College, in Spokane, WA, on October 12-13, 2007.

Recognizing the increasing role of the college in preparing students to participate in a global community, we invite proposals on this year’s theme, Pedagogy and Politics: Citizenship in the Classroom and the Community College. This theme invites discussion on topics ranging from the students’ responsibilities in the classroom, to the teachers’ responsibility to academic freedom and integrity, to the institution’s responsibilities to its members. We welcome presentations addressing but not limited to the following:
• Community building within the classroom
• Academic citizenship in the classroom
• Participation in the academic discourse community
• Students’ roles in learning communities
• Classroom to community through service learning
• Pedagogy and curriculum freedom/restrictions
• The impact of Academic Bills of Rights
• Grappling with religion in the public classroom
• Incorporating global issues and world views in the classroom
• The politics of full-time/part-time inequities
• Negotiating the politics of employment
• The importance of campus climate studies
• Institutional responsibility to its members
