Position: Chair

The Chair shall:

  • Assume responsibility for the proper functioning of TYCA-PNW and its Board
  • Preside at the business meetings of TYCA-PNW
  • Plan and distribute the agenda for TYCA-PNW meetings, with provision for additional items from Board members
  • Carry out directives and decisions of the TYCA-PNW Board, including, but not limited to:
    • Appointing individuals or committees to carry out special projects
    • Propose changes in regional membership dues prior to a vote by the membership (as directed and/or ratified by the TYCA-PNW Board)
    • Serve on the national TYCA board as a voting member (providing expertise on the region, names of English teachers to serve on various committees, proposals for presentations)
  • Report the results of all elections and appointments to the regional membership, to the chair of TYCA, CCCC and the director NCTE within 30 days
  • Forward to NCTE the following:
    • Minutes of all business meetings
    • Official brochure announcing annual conference
    • Official program of annual conference
    • Results of all elections and balloting on amendments to by-laws
    • Regional supplement tonational newsletter and other publications
    • brief annual report concerning the year's activities
    • copies of all resolutions passed by the regional membership

An Assistant Chair shall assist the Chair in these duties and preside in his or her absence at any business meetings.

 
Additionally, the Chair:
 
  • Shall serve a three-year term beginning at a time designated by the TYCA-PNW board
  • May hold office for not more than two consecutive terms and may be re-elected after retirement from office for one year
  • Shall hold no other office on the TYCA-PNW Board
  • Shall be a member in good standing in TYCA-PNW and in TYCA/NCTE.
